Iktos and Almirall Announce Research Collaboration in Artificial Intelligence for New Drug Design

Iktos, a company specialized in Artificial Intelligence for novel drug design and Almirall, S.A. (ALM), a leading skin-health focused global pharmaceutical company, today announced a collaboration agreement in Artificial Intelligence (AI), where Iktos generative modelling technology will be used to design novel optimized compounds, to speed up the identification of promising drug candidates for undisclosed Almirall drug discovery program(s). Iktos’ AI technology, based on deep generative models, helps bring speed and efficiency to the drug discovery process, by automatically designing virtual novel molecules that have all desirable characteristics of a novel drug candidate. This tackles one of the key challenges in drug design: rapid and iterative identification of molecules which simultaneously validate multiple bioactive attributes and drug-like criteria for clinical testing. “This partnership is an example of how we intend to explore the enormous possibilities offered by technology to find new molecules and to speed up clinical development”, said Dr. Bhushan Hardas, Executive Vice President R&D, Chief Scientific Officer of Almirall. “The health sector lags behind others in the digital world. Iktos generative modelling SaaS software, Makya™, is now available on the market, and Iktos intends to release its retrosynthesis SaaS platform Spaya™ as a beta version, before the end of 2019
