AKCDA to launch exclusive generic segment in trade on the lines of PMBJP stores
The newly elected administrative body of the All Kerala Chemists and Druggists Association (AKCDA) has decided to embark on a new venture, launching exclusive generic segment in pharma trade.
The sale of generic versions of all types of medicines for all therapeutic purposes will be on the lines of the centrally sponsored Jan Aushadhi stores. For this, the trade body will soon enter into contract with manufacturing companies in the southern states.
The decision was taken at the first state council meeting of the AKCDA in Kochi last week, said A N Mohan, president of the association.
In business tie-up with Kerala drug manufacturers, AKCDAs soon-to-be formed Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will procure the generic medicines and distribute among the members. The member shops will be able to collect medicines through the SPV channel, and such traders only will be allowed to set up separate generic units in their shops, said the president. The project will be launched in January next year.
